Minister for Public Works and the Digital Economy, Honourable Cassanni Laville, says the Ministry of Digital Economy continues to transform Dominica and has played a critical role in the fight against covid-19 in Dominica with the digitization of online platforms.
“We implemented the online travel forms to assist in the screening of visitors. We also implemented changes to assist in limiting personal contact through the migration of online payments to Government departments and development of key curfew passes,” Honourable Laville stated.

The Royal Thai Police is intensifying its hunt for Thai and foreign criminals who run scam call centres that send fake SMS messages to trick victims into replying with their bank account details.
The widespread adoption of online payment methods in Thailand was highlighted by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society showing that the number of internet users in Thailand has leapt from about 18 million in 2009 to more than 50 million in 2020. More than one in five activities carried out on the internet involves a financial transaction of some kind.
E-BANKING SCAM
In early December, 29 Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) customers received an SMS after they contacted its call centre. The SMS told them to send back their 13-digit ID number and a one-time password (OTP). The scammers then reportedly used the ID number and OTP to sign up to a mobile banking app which they used to transfer funds from the victims accounts.
The Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (MOEC) has officially launched
id, a platform to connect scientists/academics/students with industry players to ‘solve real problems’. The program focuses on collaborating in fields of food security, health, and energy. The Indonesian government provides up to IDR 250 billion (AUD 25 million) as matching funds, to support key collaboration projects between education institutions, industry and investors.
The MOEC also held a World Class Professor (WCP) event. This event aimed to encourage and improve the quality of international publications, by providing opportunities for Indonesian lecturers to collaborate and interact with world-class professors. In 2020, the WCP program supported the Merdeka Belajar Learning program, which includes improving the performance of Tri Darma Universitas and human resources competitiveness in higher education.
