Any transgender individual, or a CBO acting on their behalf, may apply for financial assistance by filling out a form with their basic information, Aadhar, and bank account number.
New Delhi: As the country battles COVID-19, members of the transgender community have been particularly hard hit by the pandemic, owing to severe disruption in their livelihoods. The current state of affairs in the country has forced this impoverished population into a state of severe distress. The Transgender Community is having a tough time battling acute scarcity of basic necessities such as food and health care.

The Indian Government will give an assistance of Rs.1500 to each Transgender person in view of the Covid pandemic. Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment stated that distressed calls and emails have been made by the members of the Transgender community seeking Government help and support in light of the current situation. The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment is the nodal ministry for Transgender Welfare has decided to provide a subsistence allowance of Rs.1500 to each Transgender person as immediate support to meet their basic requirements. NEW DELHI: Taking note of issues of distress and mental health faced by members of the transgender community during the Covid-19 pandemic, the ministry of social justice and empowerment has launched a free helpline for providing physiological support and counselling to them.
According to officials, the helpline (8882133897), which was launched on Friday, aims to provide the first line of counselling by professional psychologists. This helpline will be functional from Monday to Saturday between 11 am and 1 pm, and 3pm and 5 pm. A similar helpline was set up for the community to seek psychological support during the first wave of the pandemic and it was later wound up after distress calls declined.
