This has necessitated an ever-increasing need to allow vaccination for COVID-19 to all age groups and especially to all persons with co-morbidities such as respiratory illnesses and terminal illness, who, despite being vulnerable to the virus, have not been given the option to be protected by the vaccine.
The plea filed by political activist and columnist Tehseen Poonawalla said there has been a steep increase in daily COVID-19 cases in the country, with 1.31 lakh new cases as of April 9.

Over 36.7 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in last 24 hours in India ANI | Updated: Apr 02, 2021 14:10 IST
New Delhi [India], April 2 (ANI): A total of 36.7 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours across India, informed the union health ministry on Friday. As on Day-76 of the vaccination drive (1st April 2021), 36,71,242 vaccine doses were given. Out of which, 33,65,597 beneficiaries were vaccinated across 51,215 sessions for first dose and 3,05,645 beneficiaries received second dose of vaccine, it said.
According to the health ministry, more than 6.87 crores (6,87,89,138) vaccine doses have been administered through 11,37,456 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am on Friday.

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], April 1 (ANI): The third phase of COVID-19 vaccination for all above 45 years began across the country on Thursday.
According to the health ministry, advance appointments for vaccination can be booked through http://cowin.gov.in, or one can visit their nearest vaccination center after 3 pm and get on-site registration done.
The country has been witnessing a second wave of COVID-19 infections, with over 72,000 new coronavirus cases and 459 related deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
The Centre has warned that the situation is going from bad to worse and urged states to achieve 100 per cent vaccination coverage of those above the age of 45 years in surge districts within the next two weeks.
