Designing a digital interface that is equipped to handle all of the capabilities modern cars have without simultaneously being a cluttered, overwhelming mess is a challenge, to say the least. Some automakers have gone for the kitchen sink approach of lavishing their dashboards with pillar-to-pillar touchscreens, which might be cool to look at in still images but are absolutely vexing to imagine using in practice.

If the idea of a five-foot dashboard display in your next car doesn’t appeal to you, you’ll be pleased to learn Lucid has demonstrated some restraint in designing the UI of its upcoming Air sedan. I actually went for a ride in a Lucid Air just this past weekend at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, and while I got to see some of this system in action, the video Lucid released today offers a more comprehensive look into everything it can do and how it’s organized.

SEMINARS A SUCCESS
As usual, there were a pair of well-attended seminars on racing topics: Friday was on “Chevy Thunder,” the history of Chevrolet’s small-block V-8 engine, introduced in 1955, with the basic architecture still in use today. Panelists included moderator Ray Evernham, racer Dale Earnhardt, Jr., former GM racing head Herb Fishel, NASCAR’s Dr. Eric Warren, and racers David Hobbs, Brian Redman and George Follmer.

It was a long road to reach production, but the 2021 Hennessey Venom F5 is nearly ready to take on the hypercar elite. Powered by an in-house twin-turbo V8 (nicknamed the Fury) producing 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 lb-ft of torque, the Venom F5 promises to break numerous production vehicle benchmarks, including the top speed record previously held by the Hennessey Venom GT.
The F5 made its public debut last weekend during the Amelia Island Concours in Florida, where Hennessey Performance gave a small hint of its future plans. Motor1 asked CEO John Hennessey if his company had any more supercars or hypercars planned after the Venom F5. We do, Hennessey answered. He quickly added that there will be nothing above [the F5], this is the top of the top.
