Thursday’s storms have prompted Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick to declare an emergency in order to extend the yard waste burn ordinance through June 12.
GODFREY Thursday’s storms have prompted Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick to declare an emergency to extend the village’s yard waste burn ordinance through June 12.
McCormick said the village’s existing rules for yard debris will apply during the extension. Burning is allowed for yard debris only and must be conducted on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
At about 12:50 p.m. Thursday, a large portion of a tree fell into power lines at the intersection of Pearl Street and Lake Street, breaking cross arms on a power pole and causing an outage for more than 1,500 Ameren Illinois customers.

The tree broke two cross arms on a nearby power pole causing an outage for more than 1,500 Ameren Illinois customers.
A tree trimming crew and Ameren Illinois linemen arrived onto the scene to keep the area safe. The tree was removed, repairs were safely made to the cross arms and power was restored at 2:50 p.m.
