Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid still holds the president’s mandate to form a government, but his most important partner in establishing his government, Yamina chairman Naftali Bennett, will not join him. According to reports, their coalition was ready for the phase in which they inform President Reuven Rivlin that they had succeeded in forming a majority coalition government, but following the escalation in violence between Israeli Jews and Arabs, they do not appear to have succeeded.
Channel 12 journalist Amit Segal explained Bennett’s decision: “What a glorious folding for Bennett. As much as he had sought a government, in the end, he collapsed, realizing that Ayelet Shaked would run away from him.”

“Look at the numbers. About 25 percent, some people think more, of Americans are evangelical Christians. Less than 2 percent of Americans are Jews,” he declared.
“So if you look just at numbers, you should be spending a lot more time doing outreach to evangelical Christians than you would do to Jews. But also look at the passionate support. For most evangelicals in the United States, certainly for many of them, Israel is one of the most important issues to them. For some it’s number one. For others, it’s maybe number two or number three.”

The mandate given by President Reuven Rivlin to form a government will expire at midnight on Tuesday. The last significant card Netanyahu drew ahead of the deadline was the waiver card. About a week ago, he made a public announcement saying he was ready to give up the prime minister’s post at the beginning of the term of a right-wing coalition government in favor of Yamina chairman Naftali Bennett â and he, Netanyahu, be second in the rotation.
“I told Bennett that I would be willing to accede to his request for a rotation agreement in which he would serve first as prime minister for one year,” was the message he delivered to Bennett and New Hope chairman Gideon Sa’ar.
