City police dept plans to pull up investigating officers if an accused gets off because of their lapses, especially in serious cases; move being made to boost paltry conviction rates
According to information with the police, convictions stood at 27 per cent of total cases that went to court this year, and 20 per cent last year. In serious cases as well, it came to the fore that the biggest reason that accused were being proved innocent was that the complainant, witness, and panch were turning hostile in court.
