American Quarter Horse Association to stay in Amarillo

City of Amarillo officials expressed excitement regarding the change in conversation surrounding the home of the American Quarter Horse Association after the council approved an action item concerning the association on Tuesday.  “We are going to celebrate today as we change the phrase…’please stay AQHA’ to ‘hooray AQHA,’” Mayor Ginger Nelson said during a Tuesday afternoon news conference. “Amarillo is proud to be your home.”  During Tuesday’s meeting, the Amarillo City Council approved a location incentive agreement from the Amarillo Economic Development Corp. to keep the home of the AQHA in Amarillo for 10 years after there were conversations that the association was moving to Fort Worth.

Chamber of Commerce announces Supporting Small Business Initiative

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wane throughout Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle, officials with the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce are making an intentional effort to help small businesses rebound and become more successful for the overall economy through a small business initiative.  The Chamber of Commerce announced a Supporting Small Business initiative with Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson during a news conference Tuesday. The chamber is working with partners throughout the community, including the city, the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation as well as entities like Xcel Energy and Amarillo National Bank, to help give small businesses the ability to access education and various events at little to no charge, during this rebuilding period.
