Crews responded to the fire at 6:00 a.m. on reports of a trash fire near Morning Drive and Central Avenue. Firefighters discovered a camper trailer engulfed in flames and entered. Upon entry, firefighters discovered the body of a man. AFD said the man appeared to be homeless and was thought to be seeking shelter inside the trailer.

AFD details Friday evening house fire

AGN Media The Amarillo Fire Department said a Friday night house fire resulted in no injuries.  Per a Friday evening AFD media release, at 8:22 p.m., firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 1500 block of South Houston Street, noting the first crews to arrive found a large amount of fire showing from the abandoned residence.  According to the media release, firefighters knocked the fire down from the outside then entered the building to search for occupants and resume extinguishing the fire. No one was found inside, and there were no injuries, per the AFD.  Officials indicated the Amarillo Fire Marshal s Office responded to investigate and questioned an individual who admitted to accidentally starting the fire - adding the individual was released after questioning.
