A recently approved wind farm could bring significant tax dollars to Albany County and the state, while helping humanity reduce carbon emissions.
ConnectGen cleared a major hurdle Tuesday night, winning approval from the Albany County Commissioners for the planned Rail Tie Wind Project.
But the approval came with some stipulations. Those stipulations represent something of a compromise with the vocal and well-organized movement that fought the wind farm for more than a year.
The courtroom where the commissioners met was packed with both opponents and supporters of the project.
The wind farm could have as many as 120 turbines and will cover some 26,000 acres of private and state land. The permitting process has taken more than a year, as ConnectGen made its case and developed a proposal that complies with existing regulations.

The White family cabin sits at the base of Boulder Ridge with a stunning view of the Laramie Valley. Today, Michelle White is canning beans, the pots rattling on the stove. But Michelle and her daughter, Miria gesture out their giant picture window at the prairie. Okay, so the turbines are going to completely blanket this entire valley all the way up to Ames monument, Michelle says. One mile in front of Ames Monument, Miria clarifies. And all the way to the left in front of Vedauwoo, Michelle says.
The Whites moved here twelve years agoto get away from the rat race in California and enjoy watching wildlife just outside this window. But a new wind project is proposed in the area and they re worried about how birds and animals would be affected by it. They list all the wildlife they see here.

With the return of spring weather and the arrival of large-scale vaccinations, we’re finally able to turn our attention to something we haven’t had in a while: live music, in small clubs, outdoor venues and at festivals.
There’s a lot of things for venue owners to be optimistic about right now, says Chris Zacher, owner of Denver’s Levitt Pavilion. After a year without shows, the venue is slated to open for the season on May 14.
This week, venues across the country can also finally begin applying for the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant. The $16 billion federal program will provide relief for music venues that have been closed due to the pandemic.
An agreed statement of facts revealed that in the days leading up to his death, Campbell and his wife Amanda MacDonald were experiencing significant financial strain with their salvage business.
On Sept. 25, 2018, Campbell, 41, assaulted MacDonald, bruising her face and giving her a concussion. He was arrested, appeared in court the next morning, then released on conditions to have no contact with his wife.
On Sept. 27, Campbell’s friend Neil Albrecht said he could stay with him in his basement suite on Carey Road, although he was planning to move at the end of the month. That night, Monsour, Campbell’s good friend for many years, invited him and Albrecht to dinner. The three men talked about Campbell’s marital problems, said the statement.
