The announcement was made official last Friday, after Coughlin was nominated for the award by her colleagues.
Coughlin told The North Providence Breeze that it was an honor to receive the accolade, “considering there are so many great teachers” at Whelan.
Principal Amanda Donovan said Coughlin has done an “amazing job” balancing in-person and distance learning for her class over the past year.
“Not only does she hold her 3rd-graders to high academic expectations, she shows such care and patience for each individual student. Ms. Coughlin always finds a way to connect with her students,” Donovan said.
Coughlin employs a “strengths-based approach” with her students, Donovan said, which builds their self-confidence and academic skills.
