When he won the leadership of the Ontario Liberal Party a year ago this weekend, Steven Del Duca knew it would be an uphill battle but he never expected the year he’s had.
Within days of taking the party leadership, the province would head into lockdown, public gatherings would stop for months and Del Duca would enter the political equivalent of the witness protection program.

“After the convention, I had about three days of conventional political touring,” Del Duca told me in an exclusive interview this week. “I got to Windsor, Ottawa, Thunder Bay before flying home the Wednesday night after the convention and realizing we were about to go through this very tumultuous period.”
