Dec 22, 2020 Coronavirus cases continue to surge in prisons across New York State. One prison in Malone is experiencing one of the biggest outbreaks in the state.
According to state data, 67 inmates at Bare Hill Correctional have tested positive for the coronavirus. Health officials in Franklin County say 225 inmates at the facility in Malone are in quarantine.
At nearby Upstate Correctional, 6 inmates have tested positive, although two of them have recovered. Sixteen inmates are in isolation and 38 are in quarantine, according to the Franklin County Health Department.
acerbone@adirondackdailyenterprise.com Franklin County reported 35 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, but also saw 72 positive cases resolved or recovered, showing a continual spread of the virus, as well as a high recovery rate. Franklin County reported 18 new cases on Saturday and 17 new cases on Sunday. On Saturday 22 people were deemed recovered from the virus or had their case resolved, and on Sunday 50 more were listed as recovered, bringing the total number of positive cases down to 150 by the end of the weekend. Out of 704 total positive cases reported by the county since the start of the pandemic, 546 have recovered. Eight people have died of COVID-19-related complications, most at the Alice Hyde nursing home in Malone.

– Franklin County’s number of active positive cases continues to be the highest ever, with 17 new cases on Thursday bringing the total to 160. Seventeen cases were resolved Thursday, bringing the total number of people who have recovered from the virus to 463. This is of 631 people who have tested positive in the county this year. There have been eight deaths related to COVID-19, most at the Alice Center nursing home in Malone.
