Oblique references to CAATSA by senior US officials have surfaced periodically, in what many military planners in Delhi claim qualifies as a tactical ploy by Washington to nudge Delhi into buying its materiel.

Chandigarh: The US, it seems, is craftily leveraging its threat of sanctioning India over acquiring Russian defence equipment, particularly five Almaz-Antel S-400 Triumf self-propelled surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems, possibly as a force multiplication strategy to âpersuadeâ New Delhi into buying more of its materiel, especially combat aircraft.
Australia selects Boeing Apache as next armed reconnaissance helicopter
The Boeing-made AH-64E Apache Guardian fires a missile. (South Korean Army) MELBOURNE, Australia Australia has selected Boeing’s AH-64E Apache Guardian as it’s next armed reconnaissance helicopter, replacing its Airbus Helicopters Tiger fleet under the Land 4503 program estimated to be worth AU$4-5 billion (U.S. $3–3.8 billion). The selection of the Apache follows the release of a request for information in July 2019 and was announced by Australian Defence Minister Linda Reynolds on Friday. The RFI called for 29 helicopters, with 24 to be based at a single location with two operational armed recon helo squadrons, and a five for training Army pilots and battle captains at the Australian Army Aviation Training Centre at Oakey, Queensland. The two operational Tiger squadrons are currently based in Darwin in the Northern Territory as part of the 1st Aviation Regiment.
Australian Army to Get American Apache Choppers
The Australian army will replace its troubled Tiger helicopter fleet with the more reliable American-made Boeing Apache Guardian helicopters after a report revealed that design flaws and reliability issues plagued the Airbus-made Tigers.
Defence Minister Linda Reynolds said on Jan. 15 that the AH-64 Apache helicopters would strengthen Australia’s armed reconnaissance force and allow Australia to shape its strategic environment better and deter threats.
“The Apache Guardian is the most lethal, most survivable and lowest risk option, meeting all of Defence’s capability, through-life support, security, and certification requirements,” Reynolds said. “By pursuing a proven and low-risk system offered by the Apache, Defence will avoid the ongoing cost and schedule risk typically associated with developmental platforms.”

Upgrading its offensive capability as Australia orders the US Boeing AH-64 Guardian attack gunship beefed up with new goodies. Getting the apache s improved variant means that China will have its hands full of a helicopter meant to seek and destroy, emphasizing destruction.
Offensive firepower is the emphasis of the Australian Military in choosing the war-proven Apache gunship. Activities of China requires harder hitting and technologically superior equipment, which the Chinese lack.
Helicopters operated by the Australian forces are 22 Eurocopter Tiger helicopters Armed Reconnaissance (ARH) units. They are currently inadequate as threats increase in the Indo-China region, more replacements are needed, reported Eurasian Times.
