Saudi Arabia Orders Mosques To Reduce Volume Of Loudspeakers, Only Use Them For Adhan, Iqamat Prayers

The Saudi Arabian government has ordered Mosques in the country to ensure that loudspeakers are only used for Adhan and Iqamat prayers and their sound is restricted to one-third of the maximum volume, Saudi Gazette has reported. A circular issued by Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abullatif Bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, instructs all mosques to ensure compliance with the aforementioned guidelines. This circular comes after the Ministry took note of external loudspeakers being used by the Mosques during prayers which was causing harm to patients, old people and children living nearby.

According to local media, the notice issued by the minister of Islamic affairs, Sheikh Dr Abullatif Bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, asked mosques to only use the loudspeakers for Azaan (call to prayer) and iqamat (the second call for communal prayer). The notice states that the use of loudspeakers during prayer is confined to being inside the mosque and that the level of loudness should not exceed one-third of the level of the loudspeaker device, and it warns against penalizing those who violate it.
