New Delhi: Security research firm Check Point in its research has discovered a new dropper being spread via 9 malicious Android apps on the official Google Play store.
The malware family allows the attacker to obtain access to victims’ financial accounts and take full control of their mobile phone. Google has meanwhile removed the apps from the Play store after being notified by Check Point Software. The dropper, dubbed Clast82, has the ability to avoid detection by Google Play Protect, complete the evaluation period successfully, and change the payload dropped from a non-malicious payload to the AlienBot Banker and MRAT, the Check Point blog said.

A never-before-seen malware-dropper, Clast82, fetches the AlienBot and MRAT malware in a savvy Google Play campaign aimed at Android users.
A malware dropper that paves the way for attackers to remotely steal data from Android phones has been spreading via nine malicious apps on the official Google Play store, according to researchers.
The malware is part of a campaign aimed at lifting victims’ financial information, but which also allows eventual takeover of mobile phones, according to Check Point Research.
The dropper, dubbed Clast82, was disguised in benign apps, which don’t fetch a malicious payload until they have been vetted and cleared by Google Play Protect. Google Play Protect is the store’s evaluation mechanism, meant to weed out apps with ill intent and malicious functions.
OnePlus Nord
OnePlus has been testing the Android 11 based Oxygen OS 11 build on the Nord for a while and it seems to be set for a stable release soon. Even though you can download the Oxygen OS 11 update in the form of a beta version, OnePlus wants most of you to stick to the stable Oxygen OS 10 for now. The latest release, titled Oxygen OS 10.5.11, brings the January Security Patch to the Nord along with some OS stability amendments. There are no new features or additions, which hints at this being just a maintenance update ahead of the Android 11 release.
