We have two more interviews coming up with Veo co-founder and CEO Candice Xie and Refraction AI co-founder Matthew Johnson-Roberson. Finally, we published a piece that examines voice recognition in vehicles, a marketplace that has tech giants like Google and Amazon competing for space with a few up and comers and established suppliers like Cerence. Google is making it easier to bring Android apps to your car – TechCrunch

Google is making it easier to bring Android apps to your car By the end of the year, more than 10 car models from Volvo, GM, Renault and Polestar will be powered by the Android Automotive operating system and all of the built-in Google apps and services that come with it. Now, the company is making it easier for third-party developers to bring their navigation, EV charging, parking and media apps directly to a car’s screen. Google announced Tuesday at its annual developer conference that it’s extending its Android for Cars App Library, which is available as part of Jetpack, to support the Android Automotive operating system. This is good news for developers who can now create an app that is compatible with two different, but sometimes overlapping platforms: Android OS and Android Auto. It also means developers can create one app that should work seamlessly between various makes and models of vehicles.

Android for Cars products, plans to be announced at Google I/O 2021

Android Community May 18, 2021 Today is a special day for those in the Android community. Google is opening its virtual doors to the Google I/O 2021 tech conference. We have several ideas of what to expect but we didn’t really quite think about Android Auto. This category still has a long way to go but we know Google and the Android for Cars team are already on top of this business. New products and services will be announced including Android Auto Metric, the Digital Car Key, and Fast Pair. More will be revealed in the coming days but for now, let’s focus on what is available. There is the Android Auto Metric that tells us the system can now be used in over 100 million cars around the world. A number of car brands has started using Android Auto including Ford, Honda, and GM. Android Auto wireless is also now supported and we can expect more cars will receive the same.

Android Auto is finally getting the apps drivers really need

Android Auto is finally getting the apps drivers really need Chris Davies - Apr 5, 2021, 6:28pm CDT Android Auto looks set to get a whole new batch of apps, with Google opening the door a little wider when it comes to software designed to run on your dashboard. The company is now allowing navigation, parking, and charging apps to publish in the Google Play store, giving the smartphone projection system a much-needed injection of fresh functionality. Android Auto – not to be confused with the similarly-named Android Automotive OS – runs on an Android smartphone, but projects an interface which takes over the display in compatible vehicle infotainment systems. That way, you get access to Android apps, Google Maps and the Google Assistant, and your media, regardless of the native UI of the car.
