Streaming the 70s: Columbus-area musicians go retro with supergroup
Seven musicians from central Ohio who also play in other bands including the Floorwalkers and Hoodoo Soul Band get together as the “supergroup” Popgun to celebrate their love of music from the 70s and 80s, paying tribute to David Bowie, Steely Dan and others. Frequent performers at Natalie s, Popgun will assemble at Natalie s Music Hall & Kitchen in Grandview Heights to stream a live concert at 8 p.m. Friday. William “Will” O. Headlee, professor emeritus of organ in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ (VPA) Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music and Syracuse University organist emeritus, passed away on Nov. 9, in Syracuse. He was 90.
Headlee came to Syracuse University to study with noted organist Arthur Poister and earned a master of music degree in 1953, following undergraduate work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with Jan Philip Schinhan. He retired from the University in May 1992 after 36 years of teaching, academic service and continuous choir directing activity, including six seasons with the Hendricks Chapel Choir.
