Our readers had plenty to say on a union boss’ warning that Glasgow is not fit to host COP26 (July 1) HE’S quite right. Many places look like a midden. Take a walk past Candleriggs Park/Square at the moment and the most appalling, sewage smell hits you. I don’t know how people can sit out eating and drinking at the establishments nearby. On parts of Argyle Street too, the stench is horrendous. There also needs to be a big drive to tackle littering, with harder fines for those who drop litter in the street, or fly tip beside street bins, backcourt, laybys and country roads.
IT is good to hear that the government are making plans for fans to return to Hampden Stadium in time for the Euros. Football fans have been waiting for the announcement of being let back into grounds and, for the majority of fans, I know it has been difficult to get into the spirit from home. It is such a great achievement for Scotland to make the finals, and some fans have never seen them at an international tournament so I look forward to being able to get back to normal and celebrate with my fellow Scotland fans. However, why is something so essential having to be part funded by charity donations? Ditto hospices who rely on donations for 50% of their income? Any politician care to explain this?

I’M sick of reading constant moans from readers. I want to spread some positivity and thank all the key workers who have been working so hard during the pandemic. The shop workers who have kept going despite facing abuse from shoppers who refuse to wear face masks. The bus drivers who turn up every day despite many buses being half empty. The postal workers and couriers who deliver our parcels with a smile on their faces. Well done to the workers across the country who are keeping going despite the uncertainty caused by the pandemic. I just hope we can have some sort of normality by the summer.
