Sixth kidney transplant was icing on the cake for family celebrating nurse s wedding
The wedding took place three days after Ms Downes uncle, Brendan McCarthy, underwent a successful kidney transplant in Sweden from a deceased donor.

A family gifted six kidneys by organ donors through the years have celebrated another successful transplant and the wedding of Fiona Downes during Organ Donor Awareness Week 2021.
Ms Downes, a clinical nurse specialist in the Transplant Unit at Beaumont Hospital, enjoyed her special day joined by her father, Noel Downes, and her mother, Anne, who underwent a kidney transplant five years ago.
BRADFORD Bulls fans have been given the chance to boost the playing budget for the club’s squad by signing up to a new scheme. The Bradford Bulls Squad Booster Association (BBSA), a new independent supports’ group, has been set up with the sole aim of raising funds to supplement the existing Bulls club budget for retaining and signing first-team squad players. All funds raised by the scheme will go directly into the BBSBA bank account. Then, at the request of head coach John Kear alone, and after consultation with the independent BBSBA committee, funds will be released to the club to contribute to, for example, contracting a new player or extending an existing player’s contract.
Yesterday Odsal Stadium, the Bulls’ home ground until September 2019, was renamed the Toni Hodgett Stadium. Today it has been rebranded as the John & Anne Downes Stadium.

Bulls took inspiration from a National Lottery initiative in which sporting venues across England and Wales changed their names for a day on Wednesday to honour those who have gone above and beyond during lockdown. These venues included The Oval cricket ground.
