Patients in Northumberland have been reassured that hospitals are able to continue function as normal after a meeting of the board of the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The meeting, which took place today, (May 27), was designed to show how the Trust plans to recover following the Covid-19 pandemic. The Trust’s chief executive Sir James Mackey also said the number of current positive cases of Covid-19 as well as the number of hospitalisations both remain low across the region despite fears in recent days of the Indian variant of the disease spreading at a fast rate. As well as discussing the pandemic, the Trust also revealed that the number of emergency department attendances is now at a rate of which is more similar to that of before last March, although have asked people to continue to use their local pharmacy, GP or 111 service when able to do so.
