County OKs broadband application

The Faribault County Board took action at its meeting on Tuesday, May 4, to apply for the Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV).
The grant requires no public match and is for broadband development.
If the county is awarded the grant, it could mean five more small towns in Faribault County would be able to have access to fiber optic, according to Annie Nichols, the Economic Development Authority (EDA) specialist for the county.
County EDA wants to aid businesses

The Faribault County Economic Development Authority (EDA) spent much of their meeting on Tuesday, April 20, discussing two new ideas of ways to help businesses in the county.
One idea was to host a business marketing event, while the other was to host a countywide job fair.
Both ideas are strictly in the early planning stages, County EDA specialist Annie Nichols noted.
The marketing event for businesses would focus on use of social media to promote local businesses.
“At the beginning of COVID many businesses, especially restaurants, were posting daily,” Nichols said. “But since then it has slowed significantly.”
High Desert Food, Farm Alliance sets ‘food and farm trail’ development workshops

The food and farm trail will highlight farms offering agritourism opportunities and food businesses featuring locally-grown and raised ingredients.
HDFFA is now seeking farmers, ranchers, food producers, community leaders, public agencies, industry associations, tourism entrepreneurs, lodging property owners, craft beverage producers, restaurateurs and anyone with an interest in strengthening the local culinary & agritourism economy to participate in the two-part Development Workshop series on May 13th and 17th.
