Heads must roll in the Philippine National Police for the deployment of 51 COVID-19 afflicted police officers for crowd control duties at a feared “virus super-spreader event like the protest rally during the State of the Nation Address in Quezon City.

“It’s almost like biological warfare against protesters eh,” declared Bayan Muna Rep. Ferdinand Gaite in a press statement released on Thursday, July 29.
Gaite demanded the imposition of disciplinary sanctions against PNP officials who were responsible in endangering the safety of demonstrators by fielding QC policemen found positive for COVID 19.
“Not only did they block the march, they blocked it with virus-carrying cops,” Gaite said.

“In view of the apparent breach of protocol when most of these PNP personnel were deployed for SONA duties even if they were still waiting for their RT-PCR results, I have already ordered the administrative relief of the Station Commander, Police Station 3 of the QCPD, for command responsibility,” PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said. At least 82 cops from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), including those who were deployed during President Duterte’s 6th and last State of the Nation Address (SONA), have tested positive for COVID-19.
Citing information from the city’s Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU), the Quezon City local government said the policemen were detailed at QCPD’s Police Station 3 (Talipapa) as well as Police Community Precincts 1 and 2 (Unang Sigaw and Bahay Toro).
They were part of the 161 police personnel who underwent a routine swab testing on July 23. The remaining 79 turned out negative.
Their test results came out on July 27 and 28.
