Who is Robert Shwartzman? The 2019 F3 Champion now gunning for the F2 title
14-05-2021 09:30
As mentioned in our prior Formula 2 profile, winning Formula 3 is no mean feat, but it’s a strong title to lay your hands on. Robert Shwartzman, Oscar Piastri’s teammate, will have very fond memories of F3 and the, then, Formula 3 European Championship. The Russian joined the likes of George Russell, Charles Leclerc and Piastri to stand atop the podium come to the final race of the season when he was victorious in 2019. Now, he finds himself gunning for an F2 title after a strong showing in his rookie season.
The duo experienced contrasting fortunes at Imola on Sunday, with Sainz entitled to be pleased with his performance as he worked his way up from P11 on the grid to finish fifth, just behind his team-mate Charles Leclerc.
However, Schumacher will have been less happy as he crashed into the barrier on a damp track while warming his tyres behind the Safety Car and said afterwards he had subsequently been “driven by anger” at his mistake.
The son of Michael Schumacher, the seven-time former World Champion, admitted he had been caught out by a lack of grip which he found alarming.

Ferrari driver Callum Ilott will compete in this year’s GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, entered by Iron Lynx.
Ilott, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, will be the Scuderia’s test and reserve driver in Formula 1 during the 2021 season, but it looked at one point as though he may take a place on the main grid.
It was Haas that seemed a possible destination for the 22-year-old Briton, but they chose to go in another direction by choosing Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin.
So alongside his testing duties with Ferrari, Ilott will compete in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup – something new to the young driver.
