Police in Ansonia are investigating the recent thefts of several catalytic converters from cars, echoing a statewide uptick. Five converters were stolen from four locations over the last several days.  Similar thefts have been reported in New Haven, Wallingford, Vernon and Stafford. Thieves often target the converters because they contain rare metals like palladium that are in high demand around the globe. The number of thefts spiked last year during the pandemic, according to published reports.

Officers responded to a report of a person shot on Fourth Street near North Main Street just before 2 p.m. First responders found a 39-year-old man on Fourth Street who had been shot once in the leg, police said. The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police said the shooter was described as a tall, thin man last seen running down Fourth Street toward Star Street.

Police officers took reports about two purses being stolen from cars around 1 p.m. one at the Shell gas station on Great Hill Road, the other at Stop & Shop on Division Street. Police said the purse stolen from the gas station was taken as the driver was pumping gas. The suspect vehicle in both instances, police said, was a gray Kia Sorrento. Investigators believe it might have been stolen out of Stratford earlier Monday.

Kevahri Thompson, 14, was last seen around 9 a.m. Tuesday wearing flannel pants, a white T-shirt and a red sweater, Lt. Patrick Lynch said. Police described the boy as 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds with black shoulder-length braided hair and brown eyes. The teen’s family believes he could be in the area of Houston Avenue in Ansonia or Trumbull Avenue in Bridgeport, Lynch said.

Morales, who would now be nearly 2 1/2, went missing Dec. 2 2019. On that day, police said they found her 43-year-old mother, Christine Holloway, beaten to death in her Ansonia home during a welfare check. Police named Morales’ father, Jose Morales, as a suspect in Holloway’s killing and later charged him with murder and tampering with evidence in February 2020.
