WADESBORO A blue field of pinwheels in the courthouse field signals the arrival of National Child Abuse Prevention Month as the Anson County Partnership for Children hosts family-fun activities throughout April.
The Children’s Bureau within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services funds the month-long initiative and shares the importance of communities coming together to help families and prevent child abuse.
About 1.3 million children received post-response services, such as family preservation, support or foster care, due to the needs discovered during an investigation, according to the Children’s Bureau 2019 Child Maltreatment Report.
In fiscal year 2019, there were about 656,000 victims of child abuse and neglect nationally. North Carolina saw a decrease of 7,857 victims 2015 to 5,601 in 2019.

WADESBORO The Anson County Partnership for Children is now accepting applications for N.C. Pre-K.
Parents or guardians with children who will be four years old before Aug. 31, 2021 are eligible to apply for this Kindergarten readiness program. This program will be free for qualifying families.
The N.C. Pre-K classes operate on a regular school calendar. The program is designed to address emotional and social development, physical health, language development and cognitive functioning. Students participate in both indoor and outdoor learning activities what will help build a lifetime love of learning.
“Pre-K is a place where children learn skills that are vital to child development,” Karen Gerald, child care services coordinator for the Partnership, said in a press release. “N.C. WADESBORO The Anson County Partnership for Children has extended its sponsorship deadline as the group inches closer to fundraising goal for this year’s Barn Blast Celebration.
The Partnership was overwhelmed by the response to the Barn Blast held virtually on Jan. 28. Sponsors and participants helped raise $34,000, just shy of their $35,000 goal. To help meet their goal, the Partnership is extending the sponsorship deadline to Feb. 15.
“To those who have already donated, we thank you!” Executive Director Caroline Goins said in a press release. “Your sponsorship will go to serve the community. For those wanting to cultivate the young minds in Anson County, there’s still time to invest.”
