GUWAHATI: At least 20 heinous crimes against women have been reported in Assam since 2012 where women and minors from different tribal communities, including Karbi, Mising and Rabha, were raped. In a few cases, they were also murdered.
This was brought to light by Raju Deuri, an activist and president of the All India Tribal Students’ Association, Assam.
On April 22, a minor girl from the Karbi community, who was working as a domestic help at Prakesh Borthakur’s house since 2018, was allegedly raped and murdered. Earlier, a Rabha woman and her minor daughter were allegedly raped and murdered in Dhekiajuli on the north banks of the Brahmaputra in upper Assam. In February last year, a minor Mising girl was allegedly raped in Gohpur, whose body was found hanging in a tree.
