Residents reminded hurricane season is approaching

The city of Sanibel recently reported on the following with one month until hurricane season:
– Hurricane re-entry pass: The re-entry pass easily identifies who and when persons are authorized to return after an evacuation. The re-entry pass program is about safety and security, therefore getting a pass requires a short application and specific documentation. The passes are issued all year-long. Do not wait until a storm threatens to get one. Visit mysanibel.com/emergency-management. In addition, the city will reuse the 2016 purple (residential) and tan (commercial) passes for the 2021 season. People already issued those passes do not need to apply.
– Flood Zones
Videos include a “Hurricane Ready” quiz at each conclusion. They serve to test viewers’ knowledge and create a more interactive experience.
The video series recently received recognition from the from the governor’s Hurricane Conference. It awarded Lee County the 2021 Public Education/Public Information Award for educating citizens and visitors about hurricane preparedness.
The All Hazards Guide offers the same useful information as the videos do in a concise text form. It also has evacuation maps and information on hazards, such as wildfires and lightning.
Printed editions of the guide will soon be available at most Lee County Library System branches, as well as Lee County Parks & Recreation facilities.
