ATLANTA (AP) District attorneys from some of Georgia's largest counties launched a new group on Thursday to combat rising crime around the state. The Urban District Attorney Coalition aims to share ideas on a variety of criminal justice issues, including how to fight gang violence, engage witnesses and victims and give young and nonviolent offenders an alternative to prosecution.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT ) – Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputies seized several guns and made several arrests in an effort they call “Operation United Front.”
The operation, announced Thursday, targeted illegal gun possessions in Bibb County. Sheriff David Davis said deputies targeted areas with several shots fired calls.
The operation lasted 40 days, which led to 50 arrests and 40 guns seized.
The sheriff’s office partnered with the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Macon Regional Crimestoppers for the operation.
YEAR 11 students in Taunton managed to celebrate finishing school with a unique prom event. Pupils at The Holway Centre, part of Taunton Deane Partnership College (TDPC), enjoyed a prom night photo shoot. Staff donated dresses, suits and make-up so the students could take some positive memories with them. Alpha Driving School also donated a fancy car for the evening as well. Taunton Deane Partnership College would like to thank staff for their donations, Alpha Driving School and Anita Howard who supplied many of the dresses. Georgia Inmate Stabs Sheriff s Deputy to Death

A Georgia sheriff s deputy was stabbed to death by an inmate who was being moved to suicide watch, officials have said.
Bibb County sheriff s deputy Wilson Knight, 30, was fatally knifed on Tuesday when an altercation happened while moving inmate Albert Dewitt Booze, 22, to another part of the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
Another deputy, Jerome Michael Williams, 32, was also injured in the fatal knife attack during Booze s transfer for causing disciplinary issues.

A statement on the Bibb County Sheriff s Office (BCSO) Facebook page said: At around 2.25 a.m., inmate Booze was moved to suicide watch after making comments that he wished to harm himself. Several deputies escorted Booze to an observation cell.
