However, while Australia’s legal profession has never been bigger and women have never made up such a large percentage of that profession, the proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lawyers has not increased. Indeed, the share of Indigenous solicitors hasn’t changed since 2014 it remains at 0.8 of a percentage point.
In 2016, there was a slight increase in the proportion of Indigenous solicitors (rising to 1.2 per cent), before slumping to 0.7 of a percentage point in 2018 and then stabilising at 0.8 of a percentage point this past year.

Andre Buggs is charged with killing Anita Thompson. Police documents say several hours after the murder, he admitted to a neighbor that he broke into a house.
Surveillance video from the time of the murder appeared to show him carrying the murder weapon.
Buggs had an extensive criminal history involving theft, burglary and even aggravated sexual assault of a child. Now, additional public records were reading through explain how police were led to him for murder.
Those who knew her were thankful but still hurting.
Her granddaughter, Danye’ll Jefferson, was overcome with emotion and memories.
“Just like y’all grew up in this neighborhood, I did too. I stayed at my grannie’s house. I played with a lot of the kids here,” Jefferson said.
Lifelong South Oak Cliff resident Rev. Horace Bradshaw organized the rally, along with the organization No More Violence. Several people from the neighborhood attended in a show of solidarity with the grieving family, who saw their presence as a testament to the lives Thompson touched.
“It’s tragic the way that her life ended but the life that she lived was well lived. So that we cannot complain about,” Thompson’s nephew Christopher Bryant said.
