ST JOHN’S, Antigua The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Selection Panel named 30 players for an estimated month-long West Indies Women’s high-performance camp to be held in Antigua starting on May 2.
This will be the second such month-long camp in 2021 assembled under the guidance of Head Coach Courtney Walsh and his support team.
With the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers now rescheduled for December, Walsh devised a programme to maximise team preparations ahead of international cricket and the qualifiers later in the year.
“The purpose of this camp is to work on consistency and game awareness. The last camp was more observational, and we got a pretty good idea where the ladies are at. There are 30 players coming in and a few of them are coming in nursing injuries, so the coaching staff and medical team are ready to work with all of them,” he said.

Tazmin Brits starred with the bat and Shabnim Ismail took her 100th T20I wicket as South Africa chased down 124 with an over to spare to take a 1-0 series lead over Pakistan at Kingsmead.
A classy unbeaten half-century from South Africa opener Brits helped the Proteas make it four wins from four against Pakistan in all formats on the tour, following the 3-0 One Day International series whitewash earlier this month.
The home side had batted first in all three ODI wins, but showed that they are just as comfortable chasing a target as Brits – ably supported by Lizelle Lee, Marizanne Kapp and Laura Wolvaardt – made relatively easy work of Pakistan’s first innings target of 124/8.

West Indies Women’s camp focuses on fitness first
West Indies
Women’s head coach Courtney Walsh -
NEWLY-appointed West Indies Women’s head coach Courtney Walsh said the training camp, currently taking place in Antigua, will first focus on the fitness of the players as that has been an area of concern.
A three-week camp involving 24 of the top women’s cricketers in the region bowled off last weekend at the Coolidge Cricket Ground under the guidance of Walsh.
Some of the players at the camp are captain Stafanie Taylor, Deandra Dottin, Hayley Matthews and Anisa Mohammed.
It is the first face-to-face assignment for Walsh, who was hired for the position in October. The covid19 pandemic led to Walsh and his players meeting up to train months after he was hired.
