CLEVELAND, Ohio It has been an interesting spring for the Indians’ rotation. Some high points, some low points, but with just under two weeks left before the April 1 season opener everyone appears healthy even if the back end of the rotation has yet to be decided.
Triston McKenzie starts the rotation’s night moves Wednesday with the first of two night games this spring when the Indians play the Reds at Goodyear Ballpark.
The Indians, like all teams, have been forced to improvise this spring to create enough innings for their pitchers. MLB’s health and safety protocols canceled all split squad games and limited games to five or seven innings for the first two weeks of games. That provision ended Sunday and now all games can go nine innings providing the managers agree.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. The Indians have plenty of position battles to iron out over the last two weeks of Spring Training, and the bullpen is no exception.
The Tribe has a handful of intriguing arms, but so many of them are young or inexperienced. Indians manager Terry Francona has already said he intends to carry eight relievers on the Opening Day roster, with the possibility of one of the five starters moving to the bullpen until they are needed in the rotation.
âThis is probably one of the more difficult springs to gauge where guys are just because of the limited amount of innings and we can t send them to Triple-A,â Francona said. âThere are some things where we are going to have to put our heads together and hope that we make the right decision.â
