ATHOL It’s rare that a big public construction project comes in on schedule and under budget, but such is the case with the construction of the new Athol Community Elementary School (ACES). Now, town officials would like to use some of the cash borrowed to build the school to undertake repairs to the roof of Town Hall.
Recorder welcomes readers’ input at online forum
Published: 5/14/2021 5:32:16 PM
The Greenfield Recorder will hold a virtual community forum next week where readers can ask about news coverage and offer feedback.
Join Publisher Shawn Palmer, News Editor Shelby Ashline and myself at the Thursday, May 20, forum held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. via Zoom.
“Joan, Shelby and I are very interested to hear from Recorder readers,” Shawn said. “Since I’m new to town, I am especially interested in knowing what matters to you about our coverage, our place in the community and anything else you want to share with me.”
Our preference would be to hold this forum in person say, in a large public place but that is not possible yet.
Big Government

On March 10, the Athol Daily News printed an article on the front page by the Associated Press. The second paragraph talks about Bill Clinton’s claim the end to Big Government has come.
On the website clintonwhitehouse4.archives.gov, his 1996 state of the union address is displayed. A few paragraphs into it, Bill mentions the end to Big Government, he then goes on to say the numerous issues he wants Congress to address: A v-chip in TVs, welfare reform, teen pregnancy, domestic violence, education, jobs and job training, protecting pensions, health insurance, and reducing crime.
Folks that is not the end to Big Government. That is Big Government.

Residents can now order takeout and support local restaurants in Franklin County and the North Quabbin region through a partnership between Local Eats & Essentials and the Greenfield Recorder and Athol Daily News. Local Eats is an online takeout service that makes it easy to order from more than one restaurant in a community at a time. The program is free for restaurants and the customer pays a nominal local restaurant support fee (between $1 and $5) depending on the size of the order.
Amid what has been an incredibly challenging time for restaurants, Recorder and Daily News readers can now order from their favorite locally owned restaurants online. This program is unique because it’s free for local restaurants to participate.
