Shehla Raza inaugurates tree plantation campaign at KU Karachi April 10, 2021 Extensive tree plantation drives are required to prevent environmental pollution and reduce rising temperatures in the country. Sindh Minister for Women’s Development Syeda Shehla Raza said this on Friday as she inaugurated KU’s Clean and Green Campus: Second Plantation Drive 2021 on Friday. She also planted a sapling at the Center of Excellence for Women Studies at the University of Karachi. She said the provincial government was working on various projects to improve environment in all the cities of Sindh. She observed that creating awareness was essential to promote tree plantation for which universities could play an important role. “I am happy that the University of Karachi is playing its role in this regard. I am also very happy to see the trend of tree planting among the students on the campus.”

Pakistan: Wahab launches solar power project at University of Karachi

Karachi: Former students of the University of Karachi (KU)-based in the Washington DC and Baltimore area of the USA have donated a system to energise two of the key faculties of the university by solar power. Sindh Law and Environment Minister Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the 32.5 kilowatts grid-tied solar system installed on the KU campus to energise its Arts and Social Sciences faculties. The Washington DC and Baltimore chapter of Karachi University Alumni Association donated the renewable energy system comprising of 74 solar panels having cost around Rs 3.05 million. The system will help KU save 150 units of electricity daily. Earlier, the same alumni association donated the solar system for the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the KU.

PARTICIPANTS of the ceremony cut a cake to mark the Chinese New Year. White Star KARACHI: The Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi on Thursday evening celebrated Chinese New Year also known as Happy Spring Festival at an hour-long ceremony on the university campus. Speaking on the occasion, the Pakistani director of the institute, Prof Nasiruddin thanked KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi for lending a helping hand in organising the event. He wished that the new year would bring happiness and prosperity to China and hoped that Pak-China relations would further strengthen. He told the audience that the institute was in its seventh year having six to seven teaching sites in Karachi with 800 students.
