Massachusetts State Trooper Thomas L. Clardy
On March 16, 2016, Massachusetts State Police Trooper Thomas L. Clardy was killed during a routine traffic stop on the Mass Pike in Charlton when a car slammed into the back of his cruiser. Trooper Clancy was a Veteran of both the Army and Marines. He left behind a wife and six children. His killer, 30 year old David Njuguna of Webster, is currently serving five to even years in state prison. Prosecutors said that Njuguna was driving under the influence of marijuana and that his conduct was wanton or reckless when he crossed over three lanes of traffic and crashed into Clardy s cruiser. Shrewsbury Police Patrolman James Lonchiadis
The cold blooded killing of Shrewsbury, MA Police Patrolman James Lonchiadis shocked the nation. Patrolman Lonchiadis was shot at point blank range as he begged for his life and told his killer that he had a wife and two children. On the night of Wednesday, March 5, 1975, Patrolman Lonchiadis was investigating the theft of a car from a Route 9 gas station. 16 year old, 62 Edgar Bowser wrestled Lonchiadis gun from him, forced him into a car trunk, and shot and killed him. In 1978, Bowser was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. He was paroled in 2008, but his parole was revoked and he returned to prison in 2011 after testing positive for cocaine. He was released again last month under the state s medical parole statute. No matter how you slice it, law enforcement is a dangerous profession. We are reminded as sobering numbers are mounting in a new year. At least 45 cops have been shot in the line of duty, with nearly a dozen being fatally wounded, in the first two months of 2021, according to recently released national police union statistics.
The National Fraternal Order of Police announced the alarming figures on Monday, also noting that 13 law enforcement officers were injured in 10 “ambush attacks.”

As the House begins work Monday on a liberal police reform bill that those in blue view as a frontal attack, the top cop union is reminding the public that it is police who are under fire and need protection not restrictions.
The National Fraternal Order of Police said that 45 police officers have been shot in just the first two months of this year. Eleven have died.
