Heroic South Jersey Officer Honored for Helping to Deliver Baby
According to 6ABC, a Delran mother probably wasn t counting on going into labor during a major snow storm, but that s exactly what happened on a day in early February where more than 10 inches of snow fell in Burlington County.
The quick-thinking dispatcher, Mark Boyd, realized that the new mom would not make it to the hospital in time with a raging snow storm happening outside. Police officer Keith Upton was the first to arrive at the Delran home. It was real, real quick. The baby was crowning, and the head was out and the whole baby was out in probably a minute, maybe less. It is a crazy thing, but it was one of the more rewarding things I ve ever done, said Officer Keith Upton with the Delran Police Department.
WESTAMPTON Staying calm, cool and collected were key for two Burlington County first responders who helped welcome a baby girl into the world from a Delran living room during a snow storm.
Mark Boyd, a 911 dispatcher for Burlington County Central Communications, received the call at 9:54 a.m. on Feb. 2. It was from the father. I think he knew it was time, Boyd said.
The couple had the car packed up and ready to go to the hospital, but the man s wife was having contractions every five minutes, Boyd said. Add in treacherous road conditions, and there was no way the couple was going to make it to the hospital.
