As the coronavirus caseload in Telangana continues to surge by the day, the overstretched doctors cannot seem to wrap their heads around the State government’s decision to go ahead with municipal elections.
Elections are scheduled to be held for 248 wards in Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation and Khammam Municipal Corporation, as well as Atchampet, Nakrekal, Siddipet, Jadcherla and Kothur municipalities. The polls will be held on April 30.

BJP State president Bandi Sanjay took part in a bike rally as part of his election campaigning for the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) on Saturday.
On the occasion, he slammed Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao saying he had turned his farmhouse into a coaching centre for his MLAs and teaching them how to loot public property.
The MP said, KCR s farmhouse has a facility where MLAs are tutored on how to master the art of land grabbing. The MLAs from Warangal are topping the chart in looting the public, he added.

Hyderabad, April 25 : The April 30 election to seven urban local bodies in Telangana is drawing more attention for being conducted amid an intense second wave of Covid-19 pandemic than the contest among political parties.
Despite the demands by opposition parties to postpone the polls in view of the massive surge in Covid cases across the state, the State Election Commission (SEC) is going ahead with the conduct of the polls as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government is not in favour of deferring the elections.

Warangal: If BJP wins the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) polls, Warangal will be renamed Orugallu, said senior BJP leader Kapilavai Dileep Kumar.
Speaking to media persons on Thursday, he said, TRS had failed to build Warangal. The city is still without an underground drainage system, and also short of other basic amenities, he said”.
BJP leader said that the TRS government did nothing and claimed credit for many welfare programs that were funded by the central government. He said that the ruling TRS s local leaders were focused on land grabbing than on solving the residents problems. Kakatiya University (KU) is headless for more than one-and-a-half-year with the government failing to appoint a Vice-Chancellor. It shows the kind of governance being delivered by the TRS, Dileep Kumar said.
