Coronavirus restrictions remain in place across the state despite the Greater Brisbane lockdown ending on Thursday. Speaking to Sky News after coming out of lockdown, Queensland MP Mr Dutton said leaders should be able to deal with an outbreak of few cases. There has been from the start, probably even in this latest example, been a bit of panic by Premier Palaszczuk, Mr Dutton said on Sunday. The nation s new defence minister said the default position should be to keep borders open because people were being vaccinated.
Peter Dutton hasn’t missed opportunity to ‘slam Queensland government’ for lockdowns04/04/2021|7min
The “war” between the states and the federal government has shifted to lockdowns again after Defence Minister Peter Dutton hit out at Annastacia Palaszczuk, according to Sky News host Chris Smith.
Mr Dutton told Sky News he had hoped the internal border closures was “behind” us given states should be able to “deal with an outbreak” of a small amount of cases.
“There has been from the start – even in this latest example – a bit of panic by Premier Palaszczuk,” he said.
“We want jobs growing, we don’t want them diminishing. The closure of borders, in a knee-jerk way, just doesn’t help that”.
Campers along the southeast Queensland coastline are now being warned to stay put and that the time to relocate has passed as the Bureau issues a new severe weather warning. The Bureau of Meteorology warned that heavy rainfall between 120 to 160mm in just six hours may lead to flash flooding across Wide Bay, Burnett and Southeast Coast districts. The Bureau also warned of intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding, as well as damaging wind gusts to around 90 km/h, possible through communities east of Bundaberg, Maryborough and Noosa Heads later tonight and through Monday. Earlier this afternoon, campers on the Fraser Coast were told the window to leave was probably closing .
