Greater Valley YMCA expanding its childcare offerings in underserved communities Updated Mar 08, 2021; Posted Mar 07, 2021 Facebook Share The Greater Valley YMCA is expanding its childcare services at two underserved Lehigh Valley locations. The volunteer-led, nonprofit organization earlier this past week announced the expansion of offerings at its Slate Belt branch, 315 W. Pennsylvania Ave., in Pen Argyl. That branch since 2015 has offered childcare through its Keystone STARS-accredited program in a Department of Human Services-licensed facility for school-age children. The YMCA, starting on March 15, plans to expand those services and offer care for toddlers and preschool children, ages 2- 5 in its newly-constructed childcare wing.

This Lehigh Valley warming station expanded its hours amid the snow, with COVID-19 measures in place Updated Dec 16, 2020; Facebook Share The Greater Valley YMCA announced expanded hours Wednesday night at its Allentown Warming Station, as the region remains under a National Weather Service Winter Storm Warning until 10 a.m. Thursday. The station at the Allentown Y Branch, 425 S. 15th St., can accommodate 70 people, socially distanced due to the coronavirus, according to its nonprofit parent. Intake will take place from 5 to 9 p.m., with operating hours extended until 10 a.m. Thursday. Ripple Community Inc. agreed to provide wrap-around services until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17. The Warming Station at the Allentown YMCA is scheduled to open at 6 p.m. on Thursday through 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17-18.

James Jim E Lee Jr , 93

James “Jim” E. Lee Jr., 93, of Athens, passed away on Monday, Dec. 7, 2020 at Athens Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on Aug. 15, 1927, in Towanda, the son of the late James and Grace (Smith) Lee. Jim worked as a Machinist for Ingersoll Rand, Athens, until his retirement. He was a member and volunteer firefighter for Litchfield Township Volunteer Fire Company and an EMT with Greater Valley EMS. Following his retirement, he volunteered in the X-Ray Department of Robert Packer Hospital. Jim loved boating and working on small engines for boats. He was a member and deacon at North Waverly Chapel, Waverly.
