CHARLOTTE, N.C. – (News Release) – After a national announcement in December that named YMCA of Greater Charlotte among a distinguished list of organizations nationwide to receive a gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, the YMCA announced today details surrounding what the organization is calling a “transformational” gift.
Scott gifted the YMCA of Greater Charlotte with $18 million, a surprise contribution at the end of the most difficult year in the organization’s history. The donation is the largest gift the organization has ever received.

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte has received an $18 million gift from billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott money the Y will spend in underserved communities to address poverty, nutrition, health disparities and economic mobility.
The organization’s initial focus will be on communities along the West Boulevard and Beatties Ford Road corridors, the Y said in a statement late Monday.
The gift is the biggest donation ever received by the local Y.

MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos, just gave an extremely generous donation of $18 million dollars to the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. The YMCA plans to use the money to transform a few locations like West Boulevard and Betties Ford.
