Anderson High School has a new mascot: The Raptors.
The school announced the new mascot and logo Friday morning in a video. The Redskins logo was retired over the summer after students, parents and faculty protested it was racially insensitive.
“Since we began, we have been overwhelmed by the level of community and parent support for our transition efforts, Anderson principal Rob Fellows said. We are excited to continue the rich tradition of excellence in the areas of academics, the arts, and athletics, at Anderson High School for years to come. Go Raptors!
The Raptors were chosen after multiple rounds of voting by students, staff and alumni. Some of the other options were Admirals, Bears, Bison, Comets, Dragons, Lions, Phoenix, Ravens and Riverhawks.
Wexner Medical Center, Ohio State University
Medical professionals at Ohio State University s Wexner Medical Center were among the first in the state to get the COVID-19 vaccine last month.
The state is pushing forward with more COVID vaccinations with new age groups eligible in the next few weeks, even as some communities are saying the vaccine supply is inconsistent.
Gov. Mike DeWine said 800 pharmacies and other providers have been picked out of over 1,900 for the round of vaccinations that will start next week for people older than 80. Ohioans can look up providers by zip code starting Thursday at coronavirus.ohio.gov.
