At WHS, a sense of normalcy returned, looking forward to fall

WILMINGTON As Wilmington High School wrapped up the 2020-2021 school year, teachers and students felt a sense of closure.
Jessica Shelton, an environmental science and biology teacher, said, “Even though I felt there were some topics we kind of rushed through or didn’t spend as long on topics we typically would, I felt like we still had a nice closing to year.”
Anna Welch, a chemistry and freshman science teacher, advised there were some topics they didn’t get to, but she felt much was accomplished regardless.

Scarborough, Maine Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, has plans to operate a detention center out of an office building at 40 Manson Libby Road. An announcement by Maine Realty Advisors on September 10, 2019 said that the building was fully leased after contracts signed by the U.S. government. Maine groups sue ICE for information about immigrants held at jail
Three immigrant-rights groups say in the federal lawsuit that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has used the Cumberland County Jail as a short-term detention facility during the pandemic.

The developers of the building in Scarborough that will house a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office told town officials that the office will not be used for overnight detentions. ICE officials have said the facility will be used to process, fingerprint and detain people for as long as 12 hours.
