WASHINGTON U.S. President Joe Biden will nominate Mark Gitenstein, a former ambassador to Romania, to be Washington’s envoy to the European Union, the White House announced Tuesday. Biden also announced his intent to nominate four other people to ambassador positions, including Julissa Reynoso Pantaleón to represent the U.S. in Spain. Reynoso now works as an assistant to the president as well as chief of staff to first lady Jill Biden. She previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Uruguay for then President Barack Obama and has worked in Biden’s White House for just a few months, assuming the position of chief of staff to the first lady when the president took office in January.
