I ve always interpreted that as not a negative thing, even if some of the fans are upset, it s not a negative thing. First, weâve been waiting for seasons for the resolution of the love triangle between Elizabeth, Nathan and Lucas and the time between the penultimate episode and finale felt lengthy. Then once the episode aired and the love triangle did resolve, a slew of Hearties voiced their displeasure over the ultimate outcome, leading Lucas actor Chris McNally to finally take matters into his own hands and speak out.

When Calls The Heartâs Season 8 finale was the culmination of multiple seasons of romantic angst for one Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow). The Hallmark show lost main character Jack Thornton back in 2018 and has spent the last few seasons having Elizabeth raise Jackâs son, keeping Jack s memory alive while, of course, choosing between two handsome new love interests: Nathan and Lucas.
A hallmark of the Hallmark series, if you will, over the last few seasons has been pitting both Nathan and Lucas opposite one another (in a friendly-yet-competitive manner) while showing why both might be worthwhile of Elizabethâs affections. More recently, Lucas and Elizabeth had begun a tentative courtship, but that was cut a little short once Elizabeth seemingly still showed interest in what Nathan had to offer. Both men have merits, or as Rosemary (Pascale Hutton) noted:

We have been blessed with Kevin and Chris, who have done such an incredible job bringing these characters to life, and it s impossible not to, as a viewer, fall in love with the characters they ve created, it s just impossible not to. So I m really excited about this next chapter for Elizabeth, getting to see her happy and free and in love.”
