York United’s Lisandro Cabrera scored a goal in Concacaf Champions League play Thursday night – the first CPL player to do so.
The 23-year-old Argentinian centre-forward, on loan at Dominican Republic side Atlético Pantoja, found the back of the net against Mexican giants Monterrey in their 3-1 second leg tilt at Estadio BBVA in Mexico.
The club fell 6-1 on aggregate in their first appearance in the continent’s premier club competition after qualifying through the 2020 Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship.
Cabrera converted with a smart run behind the backline in the 61st minute which eventually left him one-on-one with the Monterrey ‘keeper.
