When I first met Superintendent Robert Copeland in a one-on-one advice interview regarding a high school program which I was designing, I addressed him, with all due respect, as Dr. Copeland.
Without any hesitation, he graciously corrected me to say that his title was âMr.â and that he did not hold a doctorate.
In that first year with Lower Merion School District, the surety and confidence which he demonstrated immediately conveyed to me that he was unpretentious, strategic, and âall business.â

(Charlottesville, VA) The School Board of Charlottesville City Schools announced today that it has hired Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), based in Rosemont, Illinois, to conduct the search for a superintendent for Charlottesville City Schools. After holding the role of Charlottesville’s superintendent for 15 years, Dr. Rosa S. Atkins is retiring effective May 31, 2021 and assuming a cabinet-level position with the Virginia Department of Education.
“The School Board’s role is to support the schools, and the best way we can do that is to hire the right leader as superintendent,” said Charlottesville City Schools Board chair Lisa Larson-Torres. “To help us with that process, we’ve hired HYA. The School Board and HYA are committed to listening to community voices to help us find the right match to assure the continued success of our schools.”
