BJP-JSP combine fields candidates in 33 divisions of Fort City
Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP) have intensified their campaign for the elections to the Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation scheduled to take place on March 10.
Both the parties are jointly contesting 33 divisions out of 50 divisions in the Fort City. The BJP has fielded 20 candidates while the Jana Sena Party has given tickets to ten candidates. Leaders of the two parties have been highlighting civic problems such as lack of drinking water facility, bad roads, delay in taking up underground drainage works and lack of civic infrastrucutre in newly-developed colonies.

The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation and the companies taking up contract for the two sewage treatment plants (STPs) along the coast may have to cross a number of hurdles before they could start work for the much awaited project.
The project for STPs at Kothi and Aavikkalthodu comes under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), and it had recently gained administrative sanction from the State government. The corporation council too had approved the project.

The city Corporation will open Janasevana Kendrams in all wards to deliver various services at the doorstep to city residents. Mayor Arya Rajendran made the announcement at a council meeting here on Saturday.
During a discussion on draft annual plan for 2021-22, the Bharatiya Janata Party councillors alleged that a proposal for citizen data collection in the annual plan raises questions on data privacy of the city residents. Responding to this, Ms. Rajendran said a decision had been taken to amend this proposal and suggested instead the setting up of decentralised Janasevana Kendrams in all wards. She said data would be handled here without compromising on data security.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated a bevy of infrastructure projects in Kerala, including the 2,000-MW Pugalur-Thrissur high voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission corridor.
He said the power transmission corridor would ensure the transfer of a large quantum of power from the national grid to the State and guarantee reliable access to electricity.
