BENGALURU: Karnataka hopes to get its due share of funds for infrastructure and healthcare as finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and has made a sizeable allocation for these priority sectors in the Union Budget.
Major cities of Karnataka will be the beneficiaries of the Jal Jeevan Mission (Urban) that envisages universal water supply through 2.4 crore household tap connections in 4,378 urban local bodies. The scheme will also include liquid waste management in 500 cities identified for Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transfor mation (AMRUT).
The Centre plans to implement the scheme in five years with an allocation of Rs 2.8 lakh crore.

Extension of tax holiday on investment in affordable housing until March 2022 to boost realty sector: Hardeep Singh Puri
A portal launch for migrant workers has also been proposed under Budget 2021 which will collect relevant information on gig, building and construction workers.

The proposal to continue with the tax holiday on investment in affordable housing in Budget 2021, interest deduction of an additional Rs 1.5 lakh to promote housing until March 2022 and the tax exemption for affordable rental housing complexes will boost the real estate sector, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said.
COVID-19 vaccine
Sitharaman announced Rs 2,83,846 lakh crores for the health and wellness sector which will also include Rs 35,000 crores for COVID-19 vaccines and also said that she is committed to spending more if needed. This money will be used for the development and distribution of the vaccines. She said this amounts to a 137 percent increase in the health allocations from the previous FY.
The Finance Minister said that two new COVID-19 vaccines will soon be announced without making any mention of which ones. Currently, India has given restricted emergency use approvals to two vaccines - the indigenously made Covaxin made by Bharat Biotech and Oxford s Covishield manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.
