Karnataka adopting a specific Engineering Research and Development (ER&D) Policy 2021 is timely and will help the State take a leap to accelerate and strengthen its R&D innovation, said Debjani Ghosh, President, Nasscom.
“The policy aims to address the most important issues of the industry and provides relevant incentives for companies to set-up R&D facilities in the State. The policy focuses on enabling cross-industry innovation, creating research and test infrastructure and skill development to address the critical needs of the industry and strengthen the innovation ecosystem of the state,” she added.

Bengaluru, March 2 : In a bid to remain at the forefront of technological innovation in the coming times, Karnataka on Tuesday launched the Engineering Research and Development (ER&D) Policy - 2021, said Deputy Chief Minister C. N. Ashwathnarayan here.
The ER&D policy comprises five priority sectors Aerospace and defence, auto, auto components and electric vehicles, Biotechnology, pharma and medical devices, Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), semiconductors and Telecom and Software Products.

State plans to increase its contribution to the sector to 45% in the next five years, create 50,000 jobs
Karnataka launched the country’s maiden Engineering Research & Development (ER&D) Policy on Tuesday to raise its contribution to the sector in the country to 45% in the next five years.
The State government anticipates the policy has the potential to create over 50,000 jobs in the ER&D space in five years. According to industry apex body Nasscom, ER&D has the potential to become a $100-billion industry in the country in the next five years.
