Govt. tells security forces to be ‘ruthless’ against violators
The Assam government has added the odd-even vehicle formula to its stricter partial lockdown for 15 days from Thursday, while allowing security forces to be “ruthless” if people are found crowding, and violating guidelines to stay indoors for 15 hours a day.
Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua said all government and private offices, religious places and weekly markets in urban and semi-urban areas of the State will remain shut for 15 days from May 13 in view of the rising COVID-19 cases.
To ensure fewer people on the roads, the government has decided to allow vehicles with even and odd registration numbers to ply on alternate days.

Whereas, the positivity rate of C0VID-19 cases in the urban and adjacent areas has shown a significant surge in the COV/D -19 cases during the last few days and requires stricter COVID containment measures.

Drastic times call for drastic measures. Daily COVID-19 positive cases touching over 4,500 mark in Assam justifies the State government s decision to impose more restrictions on daily life. The Health system will collapse resulting in rise in fatalities if harsh measures are not taken to prevent further spread of infections. Under the new restrictive regime, all shops and commercial establishments, government and private offices shall be closed down at 2 pm on all days. Lowering the attendance in all offices to 50 per cent will achieve the objective only if it is ensured that the rest 50 per cent stays at home. Extension of night curfew hours and banning movement of general public from 6 pm to 5 am is a timely decision and must be strictly enforced through patrolling by police teams. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has issued a revised and consolidated directive today on containment of the COVID-19 pandemic in supersession of its earlier orders issued on April 30, 2021.
These directives have been issued subsequent upon review of the overall COVID-19 situation in the State by the State Level Empowered Committee chaired by Chief Secretary.
